Suspension of Services – Jan 2021

Suspended Services

Suspended Services

Dear all. Once again I need to tell you that we have decided to suspend our Sunday services in church. While communal worship is allowed under current guidelines in England, our Bishop has asked churches in the Diocese to be particularly mindful of local conditions and the rates of infection in Southwark are twice the national average.

Coming together to worship is so important to all of us, but with the promise of a vaccination roll-out we are so close to the end of the worst part of the pandemic it is worth being as cautious as we can. The archdeacons will be preparing online worship for us during this time and we will make sure that communal worship still happens albeit in a socially distant way.

Our personal worship continues in our day to day lives as we give thanks and praise to our loving Father, moment by moment. In these dark times the words of the psalmist come to mind: “It is you who light my lamp; the Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. “ (Psalm 18:28). Christmastide teaches us about a great light coming into our world, to be among and with us. Let us take heart that in the winter gloom and the suffering that this pandemic is causing, we have Christ with us; that constant presence who has been with His people throughout the ages and is with us now.

Our virtual services with various contributors will continue in the meantime.
