Frank Stubbs – VE Day

VE Day Frank Stubbs
Frank Edward Stubbs was born on March 12, 1888, in Walworth, London. He enlisted in the British Army at a young age and served with the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, including time in India before World War I.
During the Gallipoli Campaign on April 25, 1915, Stubbs displayed extraordinary bravery while landing at W Beach, Cape Helles. He was part of a group known as the “Six VCs Before Breakfast”, soldiers recognized for their gallantry in overcoming enemy fire and securing their position. Sadly, Stubbs was killed in action later that day, and his body was never recovered.
In March 1917, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military honor for bravery in the face of the enemy. His medal is displayed at the Fusilier Museum in Bury, Lancashire.
